Activate the Post-Secondary Information Choices Form (PSI Form) For GRAD TRANS This form allows the Ministry of Education to send your Term 2 (March 8) report card to BC universities and the final transcript (July) to any post-secondary institute you choose on the form. On this form put a check in the box for all BC institutes. If you have applied to an institute in another province or country you can designate this too.
Regardless if you activate this form, if a post-secondary school requests you to self-report your marks or to send an official sealed transcript (most are electronic now though) please do so. Term 1 is available in mid-December and Term 2 in mid-March on Student Connect.
UBC will be using Grade 11 marks, for a September 2017 conditional admission if students apply before Dec. 1st, 2016. Students will then self-report their Term 2 Grade 12 marks in March 2017 for admission confirmation.
Term 1 Report Post-secondaries OUTSIDE OF BC will, in most cases, use an early admission process based on the Term 1 (Dec 14) report card.
Applications and Acceptance Emails Save the post-secondary registration number in a safe place – you will need it!
Remember, acceptance is always conditional upon graduating in July and maintaining good grades.
Students wanting to go to USA universities should have their applications in and their SAT’s booked or done by January.
Admission Deadline UVIC and SFU: February 28th UBC: January 15. If you wish to be considered for the major entrance scholarship or conditional acceptance based on your Grade 11 marks, please apply before Dec. 1st. Ontario Universities: Early admission apply by January 11th. Emily Carr University: January 15, application and portfolio. Deadlines vary per institute.
Accessing Your Personal Site (Login) on the Post-Secondary Institutes Website: Use the Post-secondary ID number issued to you and (most often) your birthdate. Some institutes, such as UBC have students create a personal site in order to apply.
Transcripts Students will start receiving emails and letters from universities, outside BC, asking for up-to-date marks. These 'out of BC institutes' want your final Grade 11 and Term 1 Grade 12 marks (available mid-December) self-reported for early admission. You can find a copy to self-report from Student or Parent Connect. Most post-secondary institutes do not want a paper transcript and use an online system. Please ensure you activate your “Post-secondary Information Choices” form for Grad Trans to ensure your final transcript will be sent to the institute. It is your responsibility!
Awards applications are now being advertised. Most major Canadian university entrance awards have a January/February deadline. It is up to you to research scholarships and many come into the Career Centre. Look into places of employment, unions, financial institutions and organizations to which your parents and grandparents belong because these groups may offer an award. A website list is on this site at "Where to Look for Awards" under Financial Assistance.
Self-Reporting Self-report your Term 2 marks to the post-secondary universities which have this service. Your Term 2 will be viewable March 8. Use your personal site (Login) on the universities' website to self-report.
SDSS Community Awards and District Awards A list of the Community Awards, application, and the District Award application are available the week after Spring Break. They will be advertised in English 12 classes and available on this website under "Forms". Very few awards are nominated so students must apply.
LPI (Language Proficiency Index Test) Since most students won’t know their final English 12 grade until the end of July it would be prudent to do a LPI test. The LPI is available at Kwantlen, Langara, and other post-sec institutes. Check the website.
Term 2 Marks are Released to Post-Secondary Institutes Your final Grade 11 and Grade 12 Term 2 marks (March 8) are released to the universities by the Ministry of Education in late April to determine faculty entrance percentages and entrance awards. Your transcripts will be released by the Ministry of Ed. because you activated the online “PSI” form for Grad Transitions.
Conditional Acceptance from BC Universities BC universities offer "conditional acceptance" and a registration date based on your Term 2 marks (these marks reflect September to February school work). Remember acceptance is always conditional upon graduating and maintaining good marks. University and College admission percentages widely vary.
University and College Notification Universities and colleges will be sending out emails (usually through your login website) to notify students of procedures and registration times based on your transcript. All students planning post-secondary school must attend a registration meeting at their chosen post-secondary institute or webinar. Remember: 1. Pay the registration fee ($100 to $400 depending on the school and program) before your registration time. 2. Pay your Housing registration fee or start looking for basement suites and room-mates. 3. Make sure the LPI and/or TOEFL/IELTS tests are done if you need to do them. Most universities want Language results (TOEFL, ILETS etc.) by April and LPI results by mid July.
